Samsung Galaxy S5 – What’s New and Different
Posted by Marcel Key on 12th Mar 2014
Last month at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Spain, Samsung unveiled a slew of new devices as the world watched with baited breath. Among them were the Gear 2, its counterpart the Gear 2 Neo and the Gear Fit along with the company’s latest flagship device, the new Samsung Galaxy S5. But as soon as the event began it seemed like it was over just as quickly, so let’s take a closer look at these devices and more specifically the S5 and how it compares to some of the other devices on the market, and also learn about what Case-Mate cases for Samsung GALAXY S 5 are planned.
Samsung Galaxy S5 – what sets it apart?
So what’s different about Samsung’s newest smartphone? Well there’s quite a bit really. Aside from the larger battery (2,800mAh) and super-fast Wi-Fi connection at 802.11ac standard, the S5 has a new 16-megapixel camera on the back and 2.1-megapixel camera on the front.
More impressively, it has an extremely fast autofocus and a real-time HDR feature that allows you to apply filters or effects as you take your shot. For those more creatively inclined, the camera also has selective focus that allows you to choose the best focus after taking a shot along with a feature called “shot and more,” that allows you to choose the best photo from several taken in rapid succession.
Not impressed? The new phone also comes with a built-in heart rate monitor for those who like to keep track, and a fingerprint scanner on the device’s home button. This allows you to not only unlock your phone by swiping your finger over it but to also lock documents and photos as well as confirm mobile payments you make via PayPal.
Further, the Samsung Galaxy S 5 is water- and dust- resistant up to IP67 specifications. Which means it can be immersed in water up to 3 feet in depth. To waterproof your new, precious device however, and add the most amount of protection possible, be sure to check out our new Case-Mate cases for the Samsung Galaxy S 5 coming soon.
Also, there’s good news for parents; the phone has a “Kids Mode” which essentially takes it down to basic functions and parts of the phone that you feel comfortable letting your kids have access to!
